The biggest part of the iceberg is called « Off-page » optimization which intends to build backlinks and reputation on the net. However, « Off-page » optimization MUST be done only once the « On-page » optimization is properly done; it’s the foundation of Search Engine Optimization.

INCOMING LINKS
  1. Page Rank : Google Link Reporting counts the small number of quality links to your site as back links.
  2. Total incoming links (backlinks) : There is a back link reporting ratio that every search Engine follows. For increasing your ranking through link building, you have to know the ratios decided by different Search Engines. For Google it’s 30.
  3. Accepted Incoming links from high-ranking pages : Since 2004, Google started focusing on links from the PR4 + pages. There was a change marked in 2006 but in 2007 it again started focusing on the links from high ranking pages.
  4. Acceleration of link popularity :  Too fast link building is considered to be artificial and can be penalised. And if a new site attaches many links faster then Sandbox penalty is to be imposed.

  4. Frequency of change of anchor text : The more frequently you change the anchor text, the less impact you get for your site-ranking. It is not good to change the anchor text many often.
  5. Popularity of referring page : The more popular a referring page is, the better it is for the ranking of the site.
  6. Number  of outgoing links on referrer or other site’s page : The Fewer the outgoing links are on the referrer page the better it is. It makes your site more important.
  7. Position of link on referrer/other site’s page : The earlier the link appears in HTML, the best result it can bring.
  8. Keyword density on referring page :  Keyword density must be followed according to Google patent. The better the density of the searched keyword is, the better for your referred page.
  9. HTML title of referrer page : The title must be related to the subject matter or theme of your page.
  10. Focusing on Link from « Expert » site : It can bring an added advantage to your site’s ranking.
  11. If Referrer page Bears Same theme : Referrer’s page bearing the same thing as that of yours is a good symbol.
  12. If Referrer page Has Different theme : Unrelated theme on the referrer’s page can bring worse result for the site’s ranking.

  1. Getting the Site listed in DMOZ Directory : As DMOZ is a open directory, Google provides ranking to the site getting listed in the directory.
  2. Choosing Perfect DMOZ category? : When you choose theme fit category, you can get good acceptance from the directory.
  3. Getting your Site listed in Yahoo Directory : Yahoo abandoned its directory in 2014.
  4. Site listed in LookSmart Directory : This directory has been closed in 2006.
  5. Site listed in other directories  : Other respected directories can bring positive result for your site.
  6. Linking to large Expert site?  : Large-sized site those are expert sites can add to your ranking.

  • Site Age : Old sites show stability and boost ranking. In older sites, the new pages are indexed easily. Very new sites can also boost easily. But the boost is Temporary boost. This kind of boost lasts from 1 week to 3 weeks.
  • Site Directory – Tree Structure : This Influences SERPs in a positive and logical manner.
  • Site Map : It can increase your site’s visibility and SERPs. Adding keywords in anchor texts helps.
  • Site Size : Previously, bigger sites were preferred by Search Engines and Bigger sites showed better SERPs. But now a day Google has been dropping pages and it prefers fewer pages.

  1. Domain Registration Time : Registration made for 5 years shows your seriousness. Registration for 1 year cannot be adding much result.
  2. Are associated sites legitimate? : The associated site must be maintained like a quality site with no spam. It can be accepted by Google.

  1. Authorship Reputation : It can add to the ranking of a page.
  2. Expertise : Expertise of the author is another positive factor that can add to a site’s ranking.

  4. Trustworthiness: Trustworthiness of an author can be analysed from the email address or physical address. These addresses can bring acceptance from Google.
  5. Page Load Speed : Google stresses on the load time. The less the load time of a page, the better crawling it can have.
  6. Google+ Adoption : It can increase your networking that Google focuses on.
  7. Google+ Participation : A positive factor to increase acceptance by Google.
  8. Compliance : The compliance with Google patents and suggestions definitely brings positive result for your site.
  9. Social Signals : Incoming links from social sites increases your site’s credibility.
